Bitwarden: Password Manager

Bitwarden: Password Manager

One of the main measures we can take to improve our security on the internet is to use a password manager, that is, a tool that allows us to securely collect and store our numerous access credentials.

In this article I want to talk about a password manager that I use on a daily basis and I think it is an excellent proposal for password managers integrated into the numerous browsers in circulation. It is also a free and easy to use service.

Bitwarden is perhaps one of the most complete password managers out there. It is a service that guarantees the security of our data, thanks to the end-to-end AES-256 bit encryption; hashing and PBKDF2 SHA-256.

The bitwarden source code is free and open-source, so it can be consulted and improved by the global community. Bitwarden is then available for any platform in 40 languages, this last feature is one of its strengths in fact being present for practically any platform makes it an extremely versatile password manager that adapts to any situation.

Thanks to Bitwarden it is possible to strengthen privacy and increase productivity. Bitwarden complies with international security standards; complies with the GDPR and current EU data protection regulations, complies with EU-US, Swiss-US services, and is also HIPAA and CCPA compliant.

Once our Bitwarden account has been created, it will be necessary to set a password which will essentially be the only one we should remember in order to have access to all our other credentials. It is very important to keep this password carefully because without it it will not be possible to access the safe.

Inside the Bitwarden safe it is possible to identify 4 types of credential categories: access, card, identity and secure note. It is also possible to create folders to better organize our credentials. With the button add an element it is possible to aggregate new credentials. Bitwarden also has a password generator that allows us to adjust various parameters to generate a complex password. This function allows us to save time in creating a secure password.

Bitwarden also has some very interesting features such as automatic compilation on mobile devices, the ability to automatically save credentials, and many others that I invite you to explore.

Bitwarden can be used for personal use but also for business use. On its web page you can consult the different plans available. Personally I believe that the basic plan for personal use is the best choice for those looking for a free and reliable service; however, if you wanted and could contribute to the project, you could choose the premium plan which provides us with some advanced features such as emergency access or authentication service.
